Blue Cross Blue Shield has been a blessing to Table of Life Ministries! Table of Life Ministries received $40,000 Grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois July 1, 2023, Springfield, Illinois–To help ease the ongoing needs of Illinoisans created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) has awarded Table of Life Ministries a $40,000 grant as part of BCBSIL’s latest round of giving aimed at helping the helpers. The Hope of Life Outreach is a project of Table of Life Ministry (DBA Table of Life Ministries) in the Harvard Park neighborhood of Springfield, IL, to reduce food insecurity experienced by children and their families by providing yearlong access to healthy meals and nutritional education that was launched on June 1, 2021.

Building on the success and lessons of the BackPack program seen across the nation, the Hope of Life Outreach Project provides one hot meal (each Sunday) and a backpack of food to every family member for every week of the year. Additionally, the entire family will receive education to empower them to prepare nutritious and low-cost meals at home.

From July to June 2024, the food pantry will operate once a month to increase our ability to meet the community’s needs and inform them of our expanded services beginning July 1st .

BCBSIL selected 175 organizations across Illinois with missions focused on access to care, hunger, shelter and behavioral healthcare, and COVID-19 health education and vaccine access to receive $40,000 grants as part of its COVID-19 Community Collaboration Fund.“ A year into the pandemic and the health, economic and social impacts around Illinois are still great,” said Harmony Harrington, vice-president government and community relations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. “We’re proud to be able to help so many organizations increase their capacity to help more people receive the help they need.”

About Table of Life Ministries, located in Central Illinois, exists with the mission of “Walking in love and transforming lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” We are following the example of Jesus Christ, we strive to holistically impact Springfield, IL, by addressing spiritual and physical needs. The church was established in 2010 and formalized our commitment to the community by beginning a monthly food pantry in 2015. Between 200 –350 people are fed per month, and over 1500 pounds of food are distributed, totaling approximately 16,500 people and 90,000 pounds of food in the past five years.
